In Switzerland, when you rent an apartment or house, you must pay a deposit (or bail). This can generally correspond to up to 3 months of rent, all to be paid in a single installment to the lessor, which will end up in a bank account until the decision is made to terminate the lease.
In order to avoid having to give 4,000 francs (and more) and have them immovable in a bank account, it is possible to take out deposit insurance: in this way you will pay an annual fee, and generally a subscription fee.
Your money thus remains at your disposal for your personal projects, although it must be remembered that you will have to pay the insurance premium regularly.
