What happens if you suffer a burglary in your home? What if your cellar is submerged by water after bad weather? Household furniture insurance is widespread in Switzerland.
Generally it intervenes in case of water damage, glass breakage, theft at home or outside, fire and natural events. Important objects such as eg. mobile phones, bicycles or jewelery are also insurable against damage and loss caused by one’s own fault or by third parties. Some insurance companies even cover the expensive key service in case of loss.
Underinsured: Are you sure everything is covered?
Over time, the house usually fills up with more and more objects: a new electric bike, the latest generation tablet, a musical instrument. The objects increase and consequently the value of the household contents increases, especially if you go to live together.
Experience has shown that it is advisable to check every two years whether the sum insured is still adequate for the value of the household contents.
Household contents insurance is valid in the old home up to three months after the move and in the new one immediately.
If you go to live with another person, then you only need one insurance. Because in addition to common household contents, all people living in the household are automatically insured. The choice is yours whether to keep your insurance or that of your partner or partner.
