Protection against occupational, non-occupational accidents and occupational diseases. Accident insurance is concluded by the employer or employee.
All workers employed in Switzerland are compulsorily insured against accidents. This obligation also applies to home workers, apprentices, trainees, volunteers, people working in apprenticeship or sheltered workshops and cleaning staff employed in private households.
Self-employed persons and non-gainfully employed persons such as housewives, children, students and pensioners are not insured. They must be insured against accidents as part of the compulsory health insurance.
Accident insurance covers the costs of treatment in the event of professional and non-professional accidents, i.e. accidents occurring in free time. Daily allowances and pensions are also paid through this insurance. The maximum insured salary limit is CHF 148,200.
Workers employed by an employer for less than eight hours a week are only insured against accidents and occupational diseases, but not against non-occupational accidents (in this case it would therefore be advisable not to suspend accident coverage from the health insurance).
Accidents occurring on the way to work and vice versa are instead considered occupational accidents.
