The policyholder can add supplementary services to the basic insurance. In fact, KVG does not cover, for example, dental care, which is instead contained in some of the policies defined as “supplementary“.
There are several examples that can be added to that of the dentist: one of these is if you want insurance that is valid throughout Switzerland (and therefore also outside your canton of residence). Unfortunately, you will have to pay an additional price. In fact, basic insurance only covers expenses and treatments in your canton of residence. Obviously, in the event of an emergency or highly specialized treatments, you can be hospitalized anywhere.
This and many other reasons lead most Swiss people to pay supplementary insurance.
Remember, while for basic insurance the insurance company is required by law to accept your request, the same does not apply to supplementary insurance
